Matthew Henry Evangelical Church started life in 1988.  Some things in the building, however, are much older and were originally found in a chapel in Chester. A man named Matthew Henry was the minister of this chapel just over 300 years ago. (You can find out about him here.)

We are interested in history and wish to honour the legacy of Matthew Henry - but we are all about Jesus, who Matthew Henry served in the past, and we serve today. Because Jesus loves Blacon, we love Blacon too, and our passion is to serve the community here and to tell people the good news that Jesus is risen and reigning.

On this page you can learn more about what we do. Scroll down for details on: our purpose; our Sunday meetings, and our other activities.

OUR PURPOSE: TO KNOW JESUS, TO MAKE JESUS KNOWN

We're a group of ordinary people from all kinds of backgrounds, of all sorts of ages and with totally different stories - but we're one big family because of what God has done through Jesus.

You might have heard about him. He is no fairytale. Unlike the question “Does God exist?” very few people question whether Jesus Christ existed. It is generally accepted that Jesus was truly a man who walked on the earth in Israel around 2000 years ago. The debate begins when the subject of Jesus' full identity is discussed. Almost every major religion teaches that Jesus was a prophet or a good teacher or a godly man. The problem is that the Bible tells us Jesus was infinitely more than just a prophet, a good teacher, or a godly man.

Jesus described himself as the Son of God - as the way, the truth, and the life.

As for us, we believe that he is the source of all that's good and beautiful, that he loves us in our brokenness. Yes, we've been hurt and we've hurt others. We've rejected God. This is what the Bible calls 'sin'. This is why Jesus had to die and it's also why he rose from the dead, conquering Satan, sin, death and hell.

He will return to put everything right again for those who love him.
We will be his, and he will be ours.
Forever!

Our Sunday Meetings

We meet at 10.30am on Sunday mornings. You can expect a warm welcome from a friendly bunch of people, who meet together to worship and learn more about God. We have limited capacity during this time but currently do not have a booking in system

We believe Jesus speaks to us today through the Bible. That's why we read it, study it, and teach it. We put God's Word at the centre of all we do, allowing his Holy Spirit to direct us & teach us.

Our gatherings have a contemporary worship style - using older songs and hymns as well as some modern ones. There's usually prayer and age-related groups for the children.

We take Safeguarding very seriously - our workers have a current DBS in conjunction with CCPAS.

There's the opportunity to chat whilst enjoying a tea or coffee after the meeting.
